Side Effects of Propionate
Propionate is a steroid which produces amazing results in terms of athletic enhancement. With the use of propionate you get the muscle gain needed for a fabulous ripped body. This short term steroid yields positive results in a short time period and is useful for both cutting and bulking cycles. Both muscle mass and muscle density increase with the use of propionate and it can also be stacked with other steroids for better results. Propionate also has the ability of protecting the muscles from catabolic or muscle wasting hormones. It can also retain nitrogen; an essential requirement of muscle building.
Acne and Hair Loss Effects
However propionate has its downsides too with the major ones being acne, hair loss and increased growth of facial and body hair. Deepening of voice has also been noticed with the use of propionate. Gynocomastia or feminization, water retention and Virilization are other side effects of the propionate but they are not as severe as acne and hair loss. Another thing about propionate is that it is a short term ester meaning that it needs to be injected frequently. Although this property has its benefits too as because of this, it clears the body quickly.
The use of propionate causes severe acne. Acne is caused because propionate forces the sebaceous glands to produce excessive sebum; sebum is an oily secretion and the collection of sebum under the skin results in an outburst of acne. The acne produced due to propionate is larger and is more painful. It gets worse with time and leaves deep scars. An interesting thing is that men who take propionate are more prone to developing acne than women. This is because men have a higher androgen level than women. As androgen the male hormone already secretes sebum, the use of propionate multiplies it and therefore men suffer from steroid acne more than women. Prolong use of propionate causes severe acne which can later turn into major skin problems; steroid acne occurs mostly on the shoulders and on the back.
Hair loss is another major side effect of propionate. Propionate converts to DHT or dihydrotestosterone through 5-alpha reductase enzyme. DHT results in the loss of scalp hair. Propionate increases the production of 5-alpha reductase and DHT which causes the hair follicles to shrink and acquire a permanent inactive condition. Although this condition occurs more commonly in men, women suffer from hair loss due to propionate as well. However if propionate is used in conjunction with a 5-alpha reductase blocker, the hair loss can be controlled considerably.
Few Other Side Effects
If on one hand propionate causes acute hair loss which can become irreversible, it also causes excessive facial and body hair growth. While men can shave it off, it is a source of embarrassment for women athletes. Also propionate causes the vocal chords to thicken thereby resulting in deepening of voice.
Increased sexual drive can occur in both genders taking propionate and the aggression level known as “roid rage” shoots up as well.
Other side effects like Gynocomastia (development of large breasts in men) and bloating due to water retention which commonly occur with the use of other steroids does not occur commonly with propionate.
